Legislative News
ECRA has been in the forefront of legislative change in Minnesota since 1972. Today we continue to fight for the rights of vulnerable adults and seniors.
In 2009 ECRA was recognized by the Minnesota Board on Aging and was awarded the 2009 Policy Award for its leadership in making amendments to the Minnesota Vulnerable Adult Act. ECRA was recognized for its demonstrated dedication to the promotion of better policy and law in order to ensure protection to Minnesota’s vulnerable residents and through this leadership worked to create the Vulnerable Adult Justice Project.
In 2009, the Vulnerable Adult Justice Project was successful in drafting and passing a consensus bill that:
Tackles the growing problem of financial exploitation of vulnerable adults
Clarifies the availability of a community alert system for vulnerable adults who are missing and endangered
Streamlines the adults maltreatment reporting system
Clarifies the definition of who is protected
Standardizes investigations.
Governor Tim Pawlenty signed the Vulnerable Adult Bill revision (HF 818/SF758) into law on May 21, 2009. The bill was passed unanimously out of all commities and on the floor of the Senate and the House.
